DNS server means “Domain Name Server” it’s a machine somewhere with a table that looks like this:
google.com 74.125.87.105
in the internet or any network no machine can join without having an address which in this case is the IP Address, Google main server’s IP address is 74.125.87.105 but it will be pain if you’re going to enter that on the address bar each time, that’s why they invented names, or domain names which ends with .com .net. org .ly and so on.
There is other benefits of domain names as you can change your server or rely on another but people will use the domain to find you what so ever IP you change to or server you go to.
Now I think you understand if you don’t already do, LTT have it’s own DNS servers which updated from the main world servers by the domain names organization ICANN, but these 2 servers aren’t quite fast and sometimes they goes off.
Here is a list of Public DNS servers which is fast, updates faster then others and most of all free.
DNS service by google which is the fastest ever:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
Service provider: ScrubIt
Public dns server address:
67.138.54.100
207.225.209.66
Service provider:dnsadvantage
Dnsadvantage free dns server list:
156.154.70.1
156.154.71.1
Service provider:OpenDNS
OpenDNS free dns server list:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Service provider: vnsc-pri.sys.gtei.net
Public Name server IP address:
4.2.2.1
4.2.2.2
4.2.2.3
4.2.2.4
Now how to setup these on your ADSL modem aka router:
You can use OpenDns guide but instead of their numbers use one of the above, I personally use OpenDNS because it’s trackable by me and I can control or block websites using it, but for speed I prefer Google DNS server.
Hope that you enjoyed this guide and found it helpful.

Dear writer,
firstly thank you for providing us with this guides but, as a normal user I found the article full of technical words like dns server…etc . it looked like it is intended to be only of profficionals use. It could have been more helpful if you supported that guide with a step by step how to setup the router.

No, it means faster respond when you type in a website address and hit enter, plus it's never down so if LTT Dns is down "Connected but gives host not found error" it's a great replacement.
