Networking now a days has become as important as having knowledge, if you have knowledge but do not have connections – know people! – then you wouldn’t be able to reach for the resources you need to produce something through your knowledge, specially now since projects have become huge – enterprise level – resources whether it means people or money are badly needed.
Networking has been practiced since long ago but today networking has become a different story with all the social websites like Facebook, Friendster and LinkedIn coming up. The difference between Facebook, other social networks and LinkedIn is that LinkedIn is focused on professional business people, it’s a good place to start networking your way around a desired industry for business.
So lets start with what LinkedIn is:
According to their website “LinkedIn is an online service helping professionals find and connect with one another more effectively. Whether looking for jobs, a lead for that next deal, or seeking out that industry expert, users can make contact with thousands of professionals through a chain of trusted connections.”
On LinkedIn what you basically do is:
- Start a profile, which represents the information about you, your CV.
- Start finding your connections on LinkedIn, you may find anyone there, a friend, classmate or a colleague, and adding them to your Network.
- Join LinkedIn Groups that spark your interest where within you may find people you have not met but have business opportunities appropriate for you in one way or the other.
- If you do not have the email for a certain person, but he or she is in your 2nd or 3rd degree of one of your connections, you may ask your connection for an introduction, your network which represents the connections of your connections can be powerful, say you have 700 connections, your whole network may include hundreds of thousands of professionals who can help you!.
If we talk about Libya on LinkedIn, we’re starting to see more and more business people in Libya joining LinkedIn and forming groups and networks, so it’s a good idea if you are a professional to start networking and finding your contacts on LinkedIn to stay aware and posted or even promote your business there.
Some of the Libya-based groups on LinkedIn are:
“Share your experience opportunities and ideas about I.T. in Libya.”
Libya International Business Development
“This group is a platform where professional people meet and discus business opportunities in Libyan market.”
I’m not going to list other Libya-Based groups as to encourage you to get on LinkedIn and find them by yourself, but let me show you how I’ve done my profile on LinkedIn, clicking on this Button which is provided by them will take you there.
Enjoy!

The more connections you have on LinkedIn the more business opportunities you get, either through them or their 2nd or 3rd degree connections. not mention LinkedIn groups which contain Job-ads and such.
