Libya Telecom and Technology (LTT) launched on Thursday the WiMAX mobile service in Libya for the first time.

In the first phase, LTT aims to provide the WiMAX mobile service to 300,000 subscribers in the country.

The WiMAX service was officially launched by Engineer Mohammad Al Gaddafi at the Libya Telecom & Technology head office in Tripoli.

The occasion was also attended by the company’s managing director, Ahmed Ayad Al Khituni, French ambassador, LTT staff, members of the press and other invited guests.

The Libya Telecom & Technology Managing Director also thanked Alcatel, ZTE, Huawei companies for their input that made the introduction of the WiMAX mobile service a success.

The WiMAX service is currently available in eighteen Libyan cities including Tripoli, Benghazi, Sabha, Sirte, Misurata, Khomus, Ijdabia, Al Baidha, Gharyan, Benwaleed, Zuwara, Tarhun, Al Brega, Obari, Zleitin, Zawia, Raslanuf and Ghadames.

“Libya becomes the forth country in the world to introduce WiMAX mobile service,” said Mr. Al Khituni.

Private and public companies as well as private citizens are now holding the queue to get the experience of using such new communication technology. The officials at the LTT have told The Tripoli Post that they are all eager provide the service.
