Since 2006 Libyan Times has been covering Libyan news published in international media, and the electronic newspaper’s team has been dedicated to collect and publish news from known and famous news media. On June of 2009, Libyan local paper Quryna, which was launched at least a year after Libyan Times, Quryna published an ad on one of its editions asking for English news writers and editors to join its new newspaper Libya Times to be published the following month. I approached Quryna informing them that Libyan Times which carries the same name, and serves the same purpose has been working since late 2006, and that we are ready to operate their English edition since we already took advantage of the name, but they answered “We welcome your contribution to Libya Times and thank you for your appreciation of Libya Times.”, we tried doing it again, and again, but its always the same vague reply. Any way, Libyan Times will continue in the same manner, and it welcomes any new participants.
Libyan Times paused news syndication since January 2009 due to irregular posting, and lack of regular news follow-up team, but though it remains the rightfull carrier of the name, and Quryna should have cooperated. I was wondering about the possibility of pleading a case against the paper.
